Birthday a Success

Crashed

Well I survived my 27th birthday!! Hard to believe that I am 27, but I am accepting it a lot better than when I turned 25 :o) The day was packed full of fun! I did a lot of cleaning in the morning and had our furnace fixed. That way we wouldn't freeze anymore! Then it was off to the Harvest Party at the preschool where I work part time. The kids had a blast and were very surprised to find out that it was my birthday! I don't think they could comprehend that I would still be having birthdays at my age :o) Then after school I headed over to Becks' work for their party! The costumes were hard to forget! Encluding a man dressed as a hula girl and a guy dressed up like a fairy! Yikes! Two sights that were better left unseen! We hung out for a little while and then it was time to head home and finish setting up for my pizza party! We had a great time hanging out with our friends! The guys hung out together and the girls chatted around the dining room table. Unfortunately our one friend, Paul, was unable to join us as he was feeling really sick! We missed having him there. But his lovely wife, Laura, came and represented their family :o) I had a great time! And the DQ ice cream cake was fabulous!! We hung out until around 11:30 or so, but little Preston didn't make it. He crashed on our couch! I had to get a photo of him! Too precious! All in all it was a great way to celebrate my last birthday without a kiddo crawling/running around!

Here I am at just over 18 and a half weeks! Not a drastic change from the last photo, but trust me I am growing! Growing right out of my regular jeans! Anyways I am just finishing up a week or so of being really hungry and really tired. I could eat and eat and eat. I still have quite the appetite. That hasn't gone away. But I feel I have a little more energy. We have my first ultrasound on Monday the 31st! It is really exciting and almost hard to wait! But we have harvest parties, my birthday party and a pumpkin carving party this weekend to keep us more than occupied until then. We are of course going to find out if Little One is a boy or a girl! We are just continuing to pray that Little One is developing as he/she should and that LO is healthy! But it is all in God's hands. We will let you know what we find out on Monday! Keep us in your prayers!

Where should we go

Where should we go

Have you ever been to a corn maze? We just went to our first one this past weekend with some young couples from our church. We all split up into teams. This is a picture of our team trying to decide which path to choose. I decided to take the opportunity to get a photo of the process. The maze was sponsored by our local Fish radio station. There were several other mazes in the area, but they were haunted and not quite what we were looking for. Our team ended up being the last one out of the maze! Oh, I forgot to mention it was raining the entire time we were there. But we are Portlanders and can handle a little rain! By being the last team out of the maze it allowed us to keep moving which enabled us to stay warm! The other two teams said they had been waiting for us for almost a half hour! We got to see more of the maze than the rest and we all enjoyed getting our money's worth. There are many positives to being last sometimes! Afterwards we all went to Applebee's. (the 2nd time in a week for Becks and I...and our 2nd time since living in Oregon!) We had dinner before going to the corn maze and still I was able to pack away my entire chicken strips meal with fries at the restaurant and I still wasn't full. My body must really be working hard to grow this baby!

In other news

Becks is gearing up for his second marathon, The Portland Marathon ,next Sunday, October 9th! It is amazing the amount of dedication to training and the overall drive one must have in order to complete a marathon! He did his first marathon back at The Inaugural Akron Marathon. It was also in October a few years back! He must have something for running marathons in October! Anyways...I am very excited for him and hope to be able to capture a few pictures of him running to share with you all. Until then keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he is running!

A little update..ok a BIG one!

Just into the 16th week and so much seems to have gone on since my last post. The day after the last post I had to see an on-call Dr about some pain I was experiencing and a small lump that I found. After getting a little freaked out about it I sent out an email requesting prayer from those I knew would be looking at their email at that time. As soon as I sent that out and got responses that people were praying I felt a peace come over me. I was able to get into see a Dr after I finished my day at the preschool where I work. I had to go by myself as it was a very last minute appointment. The Dr said after one quick look at/feel of the site of pain that it was a hernia. A bit of a bummer, but overall a relief that it was just a hernia and not anything related to the baby! I did get to hear the baby's heartbeat while I was there and that made the trip worth it!! Little One was very active, but the Dr finally found it for me to hear. I laid there listening to it and thinking 'Ok..so that is what a baby's heartbeat sounds like.' Then as soon as she took the monitor off of my belly I realized...'That's my baby's heartbeat!!' It was so exciting to hear the heartbeat!

On the 29th of September Becks and I went in for my next scheduled exam. My Dr checked the hernia site and said that it was small enough that I may have no real problems with it throughout the pregnancy. As long as I stick to not lifting children or anything else heavy. Tough for me as I am with kids all the time between my two nanny jobs and working at a preschool! Well, I am following Dr's orders and not lifting. He also said that I may not need to have corrective surgery for it after I deliver and that it may heal itself a little on its own. I was very relieved to hear that as all that I had read on hernia's talked about surgery being a necessity as they don't ever fully heal. Hopefully the Dr is right! So, after all of that he got out the doppler monitor and let us listen to the heartbeat. He had no real trouble finding it. It was faint at first, then a little louder and then Little One flipped over and it was much louder! It was almost as to say 'You want to hear my heartbeat?! Here let me flip over so you can really hear it.' The Dr said at least we have a cooperative child. I thought to myself...'At least in the womb.' Becks and I found the experience to be pretty awesome!

We got to schedule my ultrasound for October 31st along with my next Dr appt! We are very excited to see our Little One inside for the first time! And to find out if LO is a boy or a girl! Very exciting.

Overall this pregnancy has been great! I only have the other 12 pregnancies in our church to compare it to as this is our first. But compared to everyone else...pregnancy and its hormones agree with me. I never once was sick. A little tired now and then, but not much else. And for that I am thankful!
