This is where Becks' most recent relay race ended. At the beach in Seaside, OR. Not a bad place to finish running! It was a great experience for Becks. Getting to run in the Hood to Coast relay. It is a much sought after race here in Oregon. One of Nike's teams usually ends up winning. No big surprise!! Becks' team was comprised mainly of people who had rarely run. So they didn't finish with all that great of a time. Becks is hoping to run again next year, but hopefully with a more runner filled team. Congrats to Becks for taking the hardest leg of the whole relay. Adding up to more than 20 miles over all. He did great. His first leg was a bit hard as that Friday was in the 90's and he was running in direct sun. After starting to experience some heat exhaustion he decided to walk part of that leg. I got to meet up with his 'van' full of people for dinner at one guys house in Portland after they completed their first legs. They all seemed tired all ready. The heat had a lot to do with that. After 10ish they started running again into the night. They stopped to sleep in some field in front of someones house at 5:30 and were awakened at 7 and told they were sleeping in the wrong place. But prior to that they were not sleeping all that soundly as they were near an exchange point and could hear teams cheering and there were car alarms that were going off as well. So it was a not so restful nights sleep. My friend, Kari and I drove out to Seaside on Saturday morning with her seven-month-old son, Josiah, to watch them run across the finish line and to pick Becks up. It was a great experience just to see all of the teams, hear their team names and see how they decorated their vans. It was a beautiful day at the beach which was wonderful! I am sure I am leaving tons of details out and that I got some of my info wrong, but that is what happens when Becks doesn't blog about the happenings in his life! Someone has to keep you up-to-date!
Ah, to be done running so many miles without much sleep! And to be done riding in a 'van' with five other stinky and tired people!
We got to spend several days with the Becksfort side of the family as well when we were in Ohio! It was great to see everyone again. Jilli and Ali our nieces seemed so grown up after not seeing them since Christmas. We had a good time of going to Headlands Beach on Lake Erie one day and making our pilgrimage to the original Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon, PA on another. Then we spent the rest of the time hanging out around the house at Becks parents. It was wonderful just to kick back and relax. We probably seemed really boring to our family, but we enjoyed the low key visit. And our nieces couldn't be any cuter! Unfortunately Mom and Dad were not able to be in this photo, but I hear that they are working on being photoshopped in.
While in Ohio we packed our week full of stuff! As the title of this blog suggests. We had a wedding on either weekend and also my parents retirement party. All were great times! And crammed in between was visiting as many friends and family as possible! Since both sides live in Ohio. Minus my sister and her husband who drove in from Illinois. This is a photo of my family to the right! I think this is one of the only photos we have together besides from the wedding. We got to stay with our friends Josh and Kirsten while we were in Akron and that was a lot of fun. Catching up and hanging out! Our time with them went by too fast. They got to see us for short spurts of time in between the weddings, party and spending time with family. We were glad to hear of how God was working in their lives and to see how He was blessing them. Next time we see them in Ohio they will most likely have kids!! :) We are very excited for them as they are beginning the adoption process!
July was a busy month for this Becksfort family. We went to Bend, OR for the 4th weekend. And then my parents came out on the 20th as part of their cross the country road trip. We had a good time of hanging out with them. I even put them to work in the yard. Why, you may ask on their vacation?? Well because they are retired and they also enjoy yard work. And since we have so much that needs done in the yard it seemed like a good idea to use the extra help. They did get to do some tourist type stuff while they were out as well like going to Mt. Hood and to the Oregon Zoo.
